What to pack for a dog on a Canadian road trip
September 28, 2026 · 2 min · Creature & Kin editorial · Store editorial. Not a veterinarian.

A road trip packing list is what leaves the house with you. It is not how the dog is held in the seat. Hold and bench are dog car travel in Canada and hammock or booster. This page is the bag.
What actually gets used at a stop
- Water the dog will drink. A bottle you already trust is enough. We do not assign a millilitre rule per hour.
- A bowl that can leave the kitchen. That is the difference on home bowl or travel bowl. Travel bowls are in travel bowls.
- The leash you can hold in a parking lot, clipped to the collar or harness you already use. See collar or harness.
- A place to lie down if the stop is long: a bed you can fold, or a towel. Not every bed travels. Read how to choose a bed before you assume the apartment cushion belongs in a trunk.
- Bags for waste. We do not sell a substitute for that.
Stops
A dog in a car for hours needs to get out, drink, and walk. We do not publish a kilometre interval. You already know the dog. In winter, highway-stop salt is the same grit as a city sidewalk. Rinse paws before they go back on the hammock. The steps are on winter walking.
Canada is the store. The border is not.
Creature & Kin ships inside Canada, in CAD. A drive that continues into the United States is your paperwork and the other country’s rules. We do not open a US checkout because a packing list mentions the border. We also do not publish hotel policies. Call the place you are sleeping. A product page cannot promise they take dogs.
If the dog must be enclosed for a ferry, a station, or a building at the far end, add a carrier to the bag. The carrier is not the water bowl.
